SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE OUTLINE

Why was it necessary for the apostles to send Peter and John to meet the new believers in Samaria? Take note of what they did once they arrived (vs.15-17). It is essential that those who are mature and considered pillars of faith pray for, affirm, and nurture those who are new in faith. How does your church nurture new believers?

Notice the centrality and necessity of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. The apostles prioritized this among those who were being saved. Jesus instructed His disciples not to leave Jerusalem until they were baptized with the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4,5).

The apostles were the first recipients of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:1-4. Are you filled with the Holy Spirit? Here comes Simon again! Why did he want power (vs.18-19)? Salvation, forgiveness of sin or God’s favour cannot be bought with money neither are they for personal fame and self-glorification. Beware of the deification of wealth and materialism. The only way to receive God’s power is by repenting, believing in and obeying Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Notice the change of heart for Simon at the rebuke by Peter (v.24). How positively do you embrace rebukes?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 15 September 2024:

I love to tell the story Of unseen things above
1 I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story,
Because I know ’tis true;
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else can do.

Refrain
I love to tell the story,
’Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story
Of Jesus and His love.
2 I love to tell the story;
More wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies
Of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the story,
It did so much for me;
And that is just the reason
I tell it now to thee.

3 I love to tell the story;
’Tis pleasant to repeat
What seems, each time I tell it, More wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story,
For some have never heard
The message of salvation
From God’s own holy Word.

4 I love to tell the story,
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song,
’Twill be the old, old story
That I have loved so long.

Closing Prayer
Fill me once again with your Holy Spirit, dear Lord.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Matthew 11:28
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
